Like the infamous short story “The Tell-Tale Heart”, upon a person’s death, anyone who happens to be in the vicinity of the recently deceased body can still hear their heartbeat for a couple minutes longer as their spirit rapidly dissipates from the realm of the living. You are unfortunate enough to barely survive a bank robbing and witness a person get shot point blank in the head. The weird thing is, you nor anyone else hears their heartbeat at all.
